George is an innovative entrepreneur who is passionate about providing access to low cost clean energy. His early fascination with solar energy from high school was because he believed that this field was accessible to African innovators and presented an opportunity for some communities with no access to power to leapfrog other technologies such as fossil fuel energy. He gained practical skills crucial in the sector through a great internship opportunity at a leading solar energy firm in Switzerland and through his studies.

After graduating as a renewable energy technician in 2012, he co-founded SunSweet Solar Ltd, a solar energy company based in Tanzania which designs, plans, organizes and builds solar powered systems. The company imports solutions for solar energy techniques and materials at low cost, and implements in Tanzania, with the goal of bringing clean and affordable electricity to all.

SunSweet Solar was responsible for the installation of the largest solar energy system in Kilombero, at Benignis Girls Secondary School of Ifakara. The organisation is growing and currently employs four people. Georgeโ€™s vision is to deliver and install over 10,000 systems for rural areas over the next five years, which would result in several families gaining access to electricity, saving  trees, and improving the health of people in communities by replacing kerosene with solar energy.

Since becoming an Anzisha Fellow, George has been featured on CNN, ThisisAfrica, and Blavity to name a few. In partnership with Pamona-Zusammen, SunSweet Solar has installed its first Rural Dispensary Energy Kit (RDEK) at the Michenga dispensary in May 2016. This system serves about six villages with about 25000 people.

George is very driven to grow his venture and believes that, โ€œproviding solar power to rural Tanzania at a fraction of the financial and environmental cost of fossil fuels would be a revolution in the electricity market of Tanzania. With very little upfront cost, we can give electricity to families for several years.โ€.
