Gabriel Kombassare, a young Ivorian man whose community poverty situation inspired him to make a difference. Seeking to eradicate starvation in his region, at 17 he purchased a piece of land to cultivate staple food, founding a student-run farming association called Ribla Neda. Ribla Neda members cultivate basic staple food like maize and cassava to feed themselves and their families. Members pay a small contribution to cover basic expenses and are direct beneficiaries of the produce.
Ribla Neda employs 4 student employees and the has 30 members in the association. The association presently produces about 20 bags of maize and 1 cargo of cassava per year. Gabriel hopes to purchase more land for the association and modernize the agricultural process.
