The DIY Toolkit (Development, Impact, and You) created by Nesta in cooperation with The Rockefeller Foundation, is a web-based resource tailored to support development practitioners in mastering the art of inventing, adopting, or adapting ideas for improved outcomes.
Nesta, a UK-based innovation agency and one of UNDP’s partners in social innovation, worked with UNDP colleagues in Europe & Central Asia and Asia-Pacific regions to beta test the toolkit throughout its development, providing feedback on functionality and clarity of the tool as well as advice on how to tailor specifically to development workers.
This toolkit showcases a variety of practical tools utilized in the development field and beyond. Each tool description is accompanied by a key reference, facilitating easy tracking of their origins and enabling further exploration through related publications.
Why we think the toolkit is useful?
- The free toolkit includes 30 tried and tested social innovation tools that help move students from ideation to scale.
- All the tools are grounded in existing theories and practices of innovation, design, and business development.
- As well as the downloadable full toolkit, each of the individual tools is available in a range of sizes as a pdf template for use in the field, so practitioners can dive straight into action.
- The website is available in Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, French and Russian.
- The original toolkit was designed for people working in development, but the tools are relevant for any project or group.
These tools have been designed to stimulate and assist social innovation, with the support of the DIY Toolkit website. It is based on established theories and practices of innovation, design, and business development.
