ALA programs inspired these trailblazing applicants

We get excited when we see applicants to the Anzisha Program have heard about the Anzisha Prize through: 1) workshops we’ve hosted during the Prize Tour, 2) through our activities associated with the African Leadership Academy or 3) activities/workshops hosted through Anzisha partner organizations.

Below are some applicants this year we are proud of because after being empowered through business ideation workshops associated  with the Anzisha Prize, they were proactive in creating and starting their own businesses!

Nyasha with science tool kits produced by Art of Humanity

Meet Nyasha: Nyasha is 20 years old and founded The Art of Humanity project in just March 2017, after attending “Anzisha Build a Business Day” in Harare,  Zimbabwe. After going through the business ideation process during the workshop,  which took place in partnership with ACT, her idea emerged as the winning idea. Nyasha quickly established her enterprise, and has a large following represented by the 3,000 likes on their facebook page.

The Art of Humanity project is a multifaceted project aims to remove dumpsites in affected communities, and use recyclable material from the dumpsites to make art which is sold, to sustain the dumpsite removal activities. By selling their art in hotels and on facebook, they are promoting young upcoming Zimbabwean artistic talent and widening the market they can access.  From the waste material, we also make science kits which come with an accompanying handbook, which we donate to primary schools in poor communities, to promote STEM education.

Meet Alex: Alex Kisuule, is 21 years old and founded Saavy Saucy Spicy in 2015, after attending the African Leadership Academy’s Global Scholars Program. The Global Scholars Program is a three week program in Honeydew, South Africa that allows youth to explore the school’s core curriculum of entrepreneurial leadership, communication and African studies in order to develop the next generation of African leaders. Apply here.

Saavy Saucy Spicy, is a company that focuses on exporting high quality vanilla beans from Uganda, allowing the world access to Ugandan coffee. Learn more about Saavy Saucy Spicy here.

Meet Phumulami: Phumulami, 21 years old from Mpumalanga, South Africa and founder of Persntge Company. In 2017, Phumulami attended the South African Ideas Festival, a business ideation workshop organized by students at the African Leadership Academy who were inspired by the Aspen Ideas Festival. At this event he was given the chance to come up with the idea for Persntge Company. During the Festival, Phumulani’s idea was first place!

Since then Persentge Company has evolved into a company which supports small businesses to focus on branding through professional graphic design and digital printing.

Well done on the great work! To learn more about how you can be a partner of the Anzisha Prize email us at partners@anzishaprize.org. Learn more about African Leadership Academy programs here.
